Not about 'seeing any hope' (Stoics were against the idea of hope). It's about what you've done. If you have DONE everything fathomable, not just thought about, then it would be more honorable to kill yourself than go on.

Fight for life and virtue, and it is only when by living you cannot have virtue, that it is acceptable to end your life.
