a lot of old testament rules were made at a time when christianity was rather small. leviticus was about a really small group of people trying desperately to survive.

antoher thing to keep in mind is that the bible is made up of different books. can you really trust every single source in them? among many prophets there is going to be a few frauds, and half of them dont even claim to be prophets they're just random rules that were inserted in.

the bible used to be an entire library and at some point they wanted one go to source for christianity so they combined the best books for their times. htere were even multiple versions of certain stories, like david and goliath, that had radically different endings. they chose the ones they thought were best.

this doesn't call into question religion or faith as a whole, the history is still there, you just have to remember that the books were made by man and man often made rules that suited him, or even just suited his times, and even if god did specifically make a rule, he probably wasn't thinking about thousands of years in the future when the reasons those rules exist wouldn't be relevant.

if you look closely at the ten commandments they stand the test of time and all exist for a reason. those were his most important rules because they transcend time.
