Stop trying so hard. Desperation always shows, and is very off-putting. Even people disposed to like you can find desperation too embarrassing to watch.
Just try to get along. Stop looking for friends or lovers, but look for activities you'll enjoy. Join clubs, take classes, get a job, do volunteer work. When doing something you enjoy, you'll relax and forget your nervousness, and whatever there is that's attractive about you will be more visible to those around you.
