Because men are suppose to do all the heavy lifting, that's why it's imtimidating. Normally you know a women will make good gf material when you both share the load of socially interacting

I know what you mean though. I stuck out like a sore thumb in university because I was weird and shy. I knew deep down that there were probably loads of weird and shy people around me, but that doesn't help at all when they've all found ways to mask it completely and you haven't
