Hey anons, do you have any general advice for getting a job? I'm 18, live in Florida, and have no work experience, I don't know if that matters, but yeah.

Go to literally any place of business and ask about their application process. Go to any unemployment office and ask about job fairs, temp agencies etc.

I'm thinking of working at Target, so do I just go into the store and ask any employee about applying?

A job your family or friends can get you is the best option you have without experience.

Any other job that would take you won't pay you much, but at least you get exp to move on to better stuff.
>>
What kind of job you talking? Wage slave just to do something, or are you talking building a potential career that's going to fund your real adult life?

Former, idk about florida but where I live it's literally impossible to get even an entry level min wage job without experience. Literally, the local Mcdonalds will throw your app straight in the trash if you don't have something in the work experience box that is meaningful (IE babysitting/petsitting doesn't count.)
The exception to this, is if you have a reference within the store. Meaning your buddy/sister/cousin got you the job. After the first, it's easy sailing. Ask literally everyone you know if they can put in a word for you, even if you don't know them all that well. And don't you fucking ruin their cred either, when you get that job you be the best damn worker you can be as to not fuck whoever got you that opportunity over.
Other advice, no matter how much you hate it, how much it sucks, how much you want to kill yourself, when you get that first wage slave job, you cannot quit it for at least 3 months. If you quit too soon, you basically can't use it as reference for a new job. The new place you're applying will just see someone who quits easily. It will ding you. Ride it out as long as possible, and have a good reason to quit.

If you're talking long term, future career, my suggestion is if college ain't for you (which if you can, I'd do it. People value that expensive piece of paper for whatever reason.), go into a trade. You have to get some sort of special training/education. Otherwise you're looking to wage slave the rest of your life. You need to stand out somehow, have some sort of marketable skill you can prove.

Thank you and for the moment I'm trying to be a wage slave. Also, is working in a trade like an electrician or a plumber that requires an apprenticeship?

Basically. Trade type jobs are more physical than most college degree type jobs. You're learning a physical skill, like welding is one example. My neighbor made it pretty good after high school welding. Spent a year in a trade school, now he makes pretty good money. Probably as much or more than what I'll get out of my teaching degree kek.

If you don't really have any preferences for the future, or no real dream job/goal, and just know you don't wanna do college, trades are a good alternative. Just gotta make sure you read the market and pick one that's going to be in demand. Idk for sure, but I vaguely recall that welding is actually kinda saturated right now. Neighbor hit it right at the sweet spot, but now everyone's doing it so there's not much demand anymore. Citation needed though.

Sadly this. The company I'm with hired me as a wageslave, later bid on a promotion and got the job because the other candidates didn't have a degree. My degree has absolutely fuck all to do with anything this company does, but it was enough for them.

lol yup. I really don't know why society puts so much emphasis on this single way of learning (because there are actually far more effective ways of learning), but they do.
I don't actually think I'm better than someone else just because I have a degree, but most others will for whatever reason.
That's why I typically try to push people in that direction. I'll fully admit it's a scam and the whole system is a joke and 90% of what you "learn" in college is worthless, but socially it is kind of important.

Florida specifically has a lot of service and retail jobs, I personally work at a particular popular fast food restaurant and it's not glamorous, but it pays the bills. Those jobs are easier to get than others. Additionally you could try working at one of the many theme parks in fl if you live near one of them (sea world, Busch gardens, Disney, etc) or try working at your local airport, like Orlando, Miami, Tampa. I had previous work on my side because I worked at a family friends buisness
