Does this count as fake news? I can't stand reading articles like this... what is the purpose of this fear mongering about kids???

Because kids suck balls. Even if that number is an overestimate, it's still well over 150k+time+happiness that you could spend on either retiring before 40, trips around the world, or strippers and beer.

My parents raised me on just food and 300 bucks a Christmas
But I lived in a broken down house, abused, never had family vacations, never had a car, never had luxury, and starved a lot

It's not fake, but it's not news either.
Yes, it probably costs around 200,000. But that is an accrued cost over time. Calculate the monthly cost of raising a child: daycare, clothing, diapers, food. I'd say 200,000 is on the cheap side.
So yeah I guess you could say it's fake, it's kind of a hastily slapped together number, it doesn't even say at what point in time it will have costed you 200K. Like what is CNN's definition of "raised"? By the time they're 18? Too many variables.
I mean I spend 50 bucks a week on food. So 52*18*50= That's $46,800 right there.
College ? = $25,000
$1000 / yr for sports = $18,000
Clothes = 600/YR * 18 = $10,800
Thats already close to 100k, no vacations, extra rent/property tax, Cars, Gas, school supplies, Misc Shit, Gifts, Day care, Diaper, Medication, Dentist.

maybe it'll scare some people out of having kids, idk, it doesnt really matter. Stupid people breed like rabbits and smart people rarely have kids, you're just lucky if you can pull one mostly intelligent, contributing member of society out of moron's litter of 5.
That's how it's been for a long time, probably how it always will be.
