my husband had a sister that died a few days after being born.
we are expecting a baby and are thinking about names.
he suggested that we name a girl after his deceased sister.
now i can't decide if this would be a nice gesture or horrible, since it would remind his parents all the time. i said i wouldn't take it as her first name, maybe middle name.
what do you think? is this sweet or inappropriate?
>>
Can you ask his parents?

i told him that we would have to ask them first, but i feel like they would be too "polite" to say no if it would bother them. so i'm trying to hear as many opinions as possible to find out if the general consensus leans to one side.
>>
i find it retarded
why would you want to be reminded of your dead baby sister each time you yell out your daughters name
your husband is stupid or smt?
>>

I'd say middle name.
I was named after my mom's sister who died 3 days before I was born.
No one in my family calls me with my name and they all sob every time I do something that reminds them of her.

it would be her middle name, so it wouldn't be used in everyday situations.

it's a tradition in our family to give babies middle names after family members. my sister was named after our grandma, my brother after our father, and so on.
the first name of a possible daughter would be the name of my husbands grandma. a son would get my husbands name as middle name.

i lean towards "let's not do this", but if i say that, i'd need convincing arguments
