how do I get over guilt for my hobbies?

whenever I start to do something like draw, read a book (that isn't an instructional text book), or play a video game, I start mentally berating myself for it saying stuff like "You're wasting time/your life", "You're being unproductive with your life", "This won't help further your job prospects", "cut this bullshit and start reading your textbooks", etc

it's incredibly aggravating considering how much time I piss away on 4chan and youtube without feeling any remorse

so how are your grades ? are you getting all As ?
>>
not everything you do has to be productive. take me for example. i play a lot of piano. for no other reason than "i enjoy it". i don't play for anybody else or to achieve anything. it isn't something that will help me in life in any way or is good for my career or health or whatever. just pure enjoyment.
could i do some cores in that time or get some exercise? sure. but icould also be killing my braincells on netflix. i know i wouldn't do anything worthwhile anyways during that time so i can also do something that atleast doesn't make me dumber
>>
This one is easy. All you have to do is earn it. Earn the right in your own belief to do downtime activities.

Set yourself a target e.g "If I study for 3 hours I have earned the right to play a video game for 30 mins"

Also don't be to hard on yourself it can backfire and have the opposite affect as some people crash and burn from putting too much pressure on themselves.

Life is about hedonism and the golden rule. If it brings you joy, do it. Who gives a shit what you do outside of if you're having fun.
>>

the way I see it is if I suppress my hedonism now and focus on acquiring skills and experience, I can have a better life in the long run

this might actually work, I didn't even think about it like this

> i know i wouldn't do anything worthwhile anyways during that time so i can also do something that atleast doesn't make me dumber
