Should I seriously consider a Criminal Justice degree if my only enjoyment of the concept comes from Sherlock Holmes (books, tv show, etc) and the Ace Attorney games?

I'm thinking it'd be extremely interesting to be a detective of some sorts but I'm just not 100% sure.

I feel like that's a bad reason to go into a career. Besides, don't you become a detective through the police, not through law?

I may be wrong, but I thought that Criminal Justice was for lawyers and shit?

According to the career profiles on the colleges at my area they bundle things like "Private/Police Detective" and "Forensic Science" and "Judge" all under Criminal Justice

So I dunno if there's been a change between details or the colleges in my area don't really bother with details like those at least for the reasons I'm looking at it for.

Not going to lie, studied criminology and law because of that reason (but with Perry Mason novels instead of Sherlock Holmes). Obviously it's nothing like how it's portrayed, but I enjoyed it anyway.

Of course not, I'm not expecting entertainment to be 100% accurate on how all the procedures work.

Obviously there's a lot of busy work in between but I think it'd be fun considering it's fairly active and most of my life has been pretty dormant with art and computer/video games and all. With the benefit of also being useful to society unlike art
>>
>>17923244
Oh, anyway, seeing as how you've gone through with it and said you've enjoyed it, could you go into detail about that if you don't mind?

Well depending on where you live, you're probably going to be dealing mostly with petty robberies and burglaries as a detective, rather than sensational murders. And when you do deal with murders, 90% of the time they're going to be very straightforward and it won't be a game of putting together subtle clues with a dramatic reveal of who the killer was.
>>
>>17923279
I'm not a detective, if that's what you're thinking. I was saying that I enjoyed what I studied.
>>
If you want to be a detective go to the Police force my man, they've got like extra curricular programs and shit you can take part in while you're working.

I suppose you're right but it's something I'll consider. Thanks for the help!

It can't hurt to get the degree, get fit while you're at it and then join the force. That way you've got a fallback option, and a degree looks good on your resume and might help you move up the ranks faster.
>>
>>17923313
This. When I was doing my criminology degree, I met a few people who were going to join the police afterwards. That said, joining the police where I live can take 2-3 years just to even be accepted.
>>
>>17923322
Is it possible to do both at the same time? That might be an idea for OP.
>>
>>17923331
I imagine so? It really depends on where he lives and that's something he's going to have to look into himself
>>
>>17923283
See, that's why you gotta move to Japan. Their crimes are even crazier than the worst ones in the US, that's why most high end profiling shit is going down in Japan. They even got specialists who can tell by your voice what mental illness you have. Just imagine saying "desu sempai", they'd immediately shoot you for being a weeb.

call your local police department ask to speak to detective about career path stuff - they are usually very helpful

some police depts have "citizens academy" for 6-12 weeks meeting 3hrs with various police people

otherwise go for it, but police is a dangerous job

oh and you can't start out as a detective you start out as normal police officer on patrol & if you've got the smarts then get promoted
