My dentist told me that one of my molars needs a root canal and a crown to be saved. The insurance will cover the root canal but the crown will cost me 800. I'm a college student. I'm saving up for a car and moving out. The insurance will cover getting it pulled too. Should I just get it removed? It won't affect my smile in any way and it's not far back enough that I think it will drastically affect my chewing. What would you do in my situation? I can always get a fake tooth put in later right?

depends on the tooth
if it is a back molar i'd say get it extracted, why ? because the same gdamn thing happened to me, i cracked a back molar somehow, dentist said root canal & crown, fine, except 5 years later they wanted to repeat that b.s - fuck that to hell
extract costs about $500 but you have to be careful about bleeding etc
if it is a middle molar then different situation because the other teeth will collapse in

it's easier to get that done when they do the extract - if you wait then the bone actually disolves, you get some "saddle" and not enough to support an implant
I had a tootheache over NYE that has since faded now that the office is open.
Should I still call about the toothache, or just blow it off until my next appointment since it isn't hurting anymore?

It's the second tooth back from the canine. My mom had the same tooth removed and she said it's fine. I think I'm just gonna get it removed. I'm so close to getting a car and I really need to start saving up for moving out. My gf and I were planning on moving in together early next year. Sucks, I have very straight and well groomed teeth but I can't afford 800 right now.

then all the other teeth will shift forward & this may cause trouble especially for alignment while chewing
but extract/implant is safer than root/crown but more expensive too
good luck !!
