>after a lifetime of only being interested in playing videogames, i've now decided to quit gaming
>why, because i blame it for being the reason why im a loser in every arguable aspect
>to make it possible i've at least temporarily dumped my pc and everything games related to my brother who doesn't need any of it (he has his own shit)
>it's now the third day with only sleep, work and a laptop that at least has a great ips screen and runs decently, but far from good enough for games
>feeling like playing something out of sheer "nothing else to do" feeling
>was totally motivated before, now i'm really just bored
hlep, should I just give up and give in or is it just weird abstinence that'll go away?
>>
I have played most of my life. And by that I mean daily many many hours. Yet I have managed to keep a close circle of friends, multiple gfs throughout the highschool, played handball on a competitive level and attend a prestigious highschool.

Hate to break it to ya, but you were born a loser. Vidya have nothing to do with it.

>is it just weird abstinence that'll go away?

If you are anything like me, you will start to do something automatically after a week or two of doing nothing. A project, hobby, anything to escape the boredom. The only thing now is that you have to pick something that is more beneficial than mindless media consumption.

Also, it takes a while for people to get readjusted to new routines. Like I said, give it another week or two and evaluate again.

you arent a loser because you play video games. you play video games because you are a loser.

a lot of anons think that if they quit games, or fapping, or 4chan they'll magically be teleported to a club full of horny girls that find him attractive. but its not how it works.

video games didn't make you post a half naked women while looking for advice. they are a symptom, not the problem.

video games, like anything are perfectly healthy. you need some sort of relaxing but fun outlet. just because the majority stares blankly at TV doesn't mean you have to, video games at least engage. I don't like them myself outside of party games with friends, but i can recognize how most anything you do si fine as long as you do it right.

>sheer nothing to do
>was motivated before
>did nothing

im sorry but sleep, work, and laptop (computer) are the same things you did when you played video games. now you're just sitting around bored.

becuase video games werent the problem. if you want to fill your time with productive meaningful stuff, you hav e to actually list them out and plan what to do, not just assume they'll manifest without vidyah.

so make a list, start small, do those things. and if you have time left over, feel free to play vidyah.
>>
>>17856381
You can't just dump something that takes up a part of your life. Try finding another hobby, then dump video games.
>>
Below I'll copypaste two replies I just made in another thread:

>>
I have some sort of "concentration issues" according to several psychologists now (one hinted at ADD/ADHD, another at fucking asperger wth), and I've never been much of a creator person - as in I've tried to create this and that but it ends up as a big why when millions of people already create amazing things I can consume anyway. Aside from this I don't really know of anything other than games and lifting.

>>
It's made me a loser because it left me with minimal social skills, it pisses me off occasionally and when I do I go ape, it's often ended up just being a chore and a grind to play (my favorite genres at least USED to be RPGs) feeling like more work after my work shift has ended.
I've invested my youth and like 70% of the earnings I ever made (in these few years I've had any mind you) on this stuff. Well, my current mood began after I watched some "GameQuitters" stuff on YouTube...
>>
>>17856455
Oh shit it worked now. Internet died for a bit.

>>17856413
>>17856422
So your suggestion is that it's me and not my interest that is doing something significantly wrong?

>>17856419
I don't know if I'm anything like you. But I wanna at least try, I guess.

Also as of late I've somehow gotten it in my mind that gaming is the ultimate loser interest, the hobby for manchildren and autists more than any other especially with the continuously dumbing down of everything, SJW propaganda, really just generally catering towards making it kid friendly in every way no matter what genre it is anymore.
>>
>>17856472

>So your suggestion is that it's me and not my interest that is doing something significantly wrong?

literally yes anon, your interests do not control you. you control you. video games arent making you a loser. how does that ev en make sense? stopping them wont make other things magically happen or appear.

this isn't rocket science. thinki of whta you would like to be doing in the productive sense, then just do it.

consider the following
>you're fat
>you want to lose weight
>you blame food
>so you stop eating
>you die because now you're not eating

see the problem? food isnt the problem. you are. you were abusing food. so the trick is to eat healthy. you can still even have your junk food (re: video games) but you need them in moderation, AFTER you've eaten your healthy food (re: productive hobbies).

get it?

and despite what the other anon said you weren't 'born a loser'. you just became one (according to you). its a simple fix. its your life. do what you want with it. you aren't destined to be a loser just becuase video games are fun.

the real question is, are you only doing this cusz you want a gf?
>>
Was gonna give advice but saw other people in the thread have pretty much covered it. Just wanted to reinforce that they're right; video games in and of themselves aren't a problem.
>>
>>17856484
I see. You make sense Anon.
And no, I already have a cute gf of 4 years. Thing is, around her I'm a gigantic beta puppy. I want to become her alpha warrior. I want to man up.

>>17856489
Yeah, I suppose I'll have to reconsider this again.

Speaking of moderation, I already only play games when I have nothing else at all to do. It's what's going on right now though, gf's gone (hurp durp fucking Jamal get on with the memes) visiting relatives for the week and I thought I'd try this out, but it seems to be backfiring.
>>
>>17856607

>i already only play games when i have nothing else at all to do

but thats what people say about their productive hobbies too. so if you are letting ALL your free time be consumed by video games, than you can still be a loser.

we dont know you or what you do. you have a girlfriend and a job, so frankly i say play all the video games you want. if there's nothing new you want to try and you're a happy fulfilled person, than who's calling you a loser?

To be fair, I've always considered myself a loser that should just die anyway. Been this way since preschool like 25 years ago.

I as a human being am capable of so much more though. I could exercise until I can run a marathon, I could get strong and handsome and feel like a man around my girl, I could... I dunno, learn something useful and help society, honestly I don't even know what else I'd care to do but that's because I've been obsessed with games for so long?
>>
>>17856643

design a video game
>>
>>17856415
No :^)

>>17856472
Yes. If you find enough time to read/work out/run, go biking etc.etc there is nothing wrong with having 3 hrs of a day of gaming. Your problem is, that you cant seem to do anything else.
>>
>>17856686
It's more of an obsession, or autistic mindset. I realize that it's dumb but I subconciously need ONE passion, I think.
>>
>>17856381
OP hobbies don't make the man. I play Vidya almost every day, read fantasy books and read science journals for fun, and I do quite well socially and people know about the hobbies. A girl just last night called me a dork and I looked at her and said that it's part of my charm and winked and she blushed. You gotta own it and be a person people like to be around, at the end of the day no one gives a fuck what your hobbies are.
>>
>>17856413
This
Plus I just generally love video games. Must people seem to play them because 'lol nothing else to do', but I always have a good time playing since it's what I want to do.
Don't blame the games mate, you weren't doing what you wanted to do
>>
>>17856700

im similar. i need one passion. that being said, i pick productive ones.

try making a video game

I might addicted to the Internet and video games to the point that I am unable to concentrate on my tasks when I turn everything off. I am an utter failure and recognized the value of education and socializing, but now it's too late to do something. Haven't played anything for a long time, yet it had been my pastime for the whole adolescence. Nothing changed. I fill my free time sink with unconscious actions, they are predetermined.

>try making a video game

I remember, when I was 12, I used to make maps in Warcraft, shit was fascinating. Best years of my life. This was the time I felt a real feeling of meaning, as not something ethereal, but something material, existing.
>>
>>17856981

then do it again mate, its fun. start wtih rphmaker, then download game maker and figure it out.

start by taking REALLY SIMPLE story ideas. like a short film, and just make one or two or three levels they play through with simple cutscenes inebtween.

start that small and work up bigger.
>>
>>17856981
You could try dota2 maps now that warcraft online community is nonexistent and starcraft II community is dying (I think it is but I'm not complete sure). It's the same deal. You could make a complete new game that has nothing to do with the original game.
>>
The video games are a symptom of a problem, not the problem itself, as many have already said.

But that doesn't mean you shouldn't cut them out. I used to play video games constantly, I was unemployed for about a year and it was basically all I did. I was worried it would feel like losing a part of my identity if I stopped playing video games, but it was really easy. More fulfilling things and social activities took the place of video games really quickly once I put myself out there.
>>
>>17856381
i'm dooing the same right now
and i made a timetable for every day
just like school
and i really get shit done
it's just really hard to stick to it

also, are the v.g. really to blame for your lack of success?
i mean, might it be something else, like your personality?
>>
I play video games and my life is great.

It's not the video games that are ruining your life, it's your mindset.

Limit video games to one hour a day and you'll be fine. There's such a thing as positive escapism, playing video games in moderate amounts is actually perfectly healthy for males.

Don't blame anything but yourself for being a loser. You are weak and you need to grow stronger. Do pushups, stop looking at porn, only ejaculate once a week, and you'll see results. Set your mind to improving yourself, and you will improve. Just be proactive.
>>
>>17856643
You feel pressured to be or do all these things because you think you're not good enough.

I feel the same a lot of the time. I feel like I'm not doing enough, like I'm not enough. It's my life blah blah but I still feel like I'm not doing enough, etc.

I think what would help is to become aware of exactly when and why you feel inadequate or something. Do you see physically fit men and suddenly feel inferior? Do you see men with more fancy degrees and think you didn't do enough school? Do you worry these "better" men could "steal" your girl? Do you compare yourself to others and feel like you have to be the best at everything and in every way? Gotta watch in particular to find out whether or not you're just feeling insecure because you want to dominate everything or protect yourself from being hurt, rejected or abandoned. Every once in a while we experience these lows and they are a part of human existence. You can't really make them go away, you also don't have go give in every time it comes up, by doing things like forgoing a hobby you've always enjoyed because it makes you "feel like a loser".
