Why is my Wifi not password protected all of the sudden?

It says it's a public network.
How do I make it private?
>>
Have you called your ISP?
>>
i managed to set a new password and secure my connection.

but i still have no idea how my original password went away
>>
>>17851951
should not be happening.

>How do I make it private?
Change from WEP to WPA2 (or WPA if your router is old. But then you should buy a new one instead).
>>
>>17851951
192.168.1.0 into your browser and set a WPA2 password. It should have a password when you were given it if it's from your iSP
>>
You remembered to set your router's admin username and password to something other than the default, right?
>>
>>17852991
i couldnt figure out how to change the default user, but i did change thepass

>>17852974
yeah i just made it private

but like i said, i have no clue how it became public out of nowhere, like the password got deleted and everything
>>
>>17851951
public vs private networks aren't about whether they have passwords. It's just changing how your firewall operates (on windows, IDK about other OS). Windows Firewall has public rules and private rules.

your wifi is probably still password protected.
>>

i check it with a phone, didnt require a pass to use my wifi like it used to
>>
>>17853308
your phone saves passwords for wifi networks you've connected to in the past.
