in australia i've seen people get results by pretty much leaving it untreated, and one day they just seem to snap and have an episode and get sent to the psych ward. where they get treated - thoroughly.

Oh, I've been sent to a ward on an ambulance twice so far. First for a suicide attempt. They kept me for two weeks - not treated, just given some pill - and let me walk out.

Then for having a breakdown at work. They kept me for a week - not treated, just given some different pill - and let me walk out.

I'm pretty sure I'd need to kill somebody.

Yes, this is a very common problem.

Many extremely mentally ill people are able to completely appear normal when taken to a psychiatrist.

Any psych that isn't retarded will know this. Any psych that isn't fucking retarded will know how psychosis and delusional beliefs work. They are sometimes near impossible to decipher from reality when told from the mentally ill person's point of view. In order to know exactly what is going on a GOOD psych will interview close family members, friends, partners, employers, and more. They will also have the patient or anyone else create a mental health journal where you write down any emotional changes, times, events, ect.

Seriously, illnesses like sociopath, borderline, bipola and schizophrenia can be extremely difficult to determine with only the patients personal experiences. Some delusional people can be super convincing.

also, a good psych will take longer than 2 session to offer a diagnosis. You need to rule out physical illness causes as well. Drug abuse, alcohol abuse, tumors, ect.
