I'm self-employed. is saving for retirement with a roth IRA/etc worth it? I've been poor for so long that the prospect of saving for my retirement seems ridiculous.

Is that ShindoL?
How much would you be able to put away a month?

I need to start saving for retirement too. I just finished paying off my lands and have no idea where to start.

How old are you?

Saving money and building a nest egg is always worth it. Whether you want an IRA or some other kind of account is a more complicated question and depends on your tax situation and where you anticipate you'll be in life income wise etc.

I get $12 an hour, and put away $500 a month. Not all for retirement, but that's what I can manage.
You should always try and put away something, but if you're making less than that, I can imagine it'd be hard. I sometimes struggle not to dip into my savings. Just put away something now and you'll at least have something later. Even if it's not a lot, it's something.
I'm not sure I could recommend an actual retirement account though. Just put it into a savings account now, and once you've built it up a bit transfer it over to a retirement account.
