I've realized in recent years that I've had a porn addiction for a long time now. I've tried to quit several times, most successfully for nearly 4 months just two years ago, but have always ended up going back to my bad habits.
This has gotten even more problematic since breaking up with my long-term girlfriend about a month ago. I now find myself wasting a lot my time on porn, masturbating instead of working out, missing dead lines at work or sleep because I was masturbating, etc.
Do I have any chance of breaking out of this miserable addiction? I hate what it does to me, but it's one of the only things that still give me pleasure in life.

Also, if it's importnat - I'm 26, and have been using porn daily since I was 13 years old.

Can you go without if you have to? Have you actually tried to go cold turkey with it? If this is a genuine problem you can't control, it might be worth it to seek professional help.

Yes, I've managed to go cold turkey for a couple of months, but I always wind up going back. My best was close to 4 months. I actually haven't considered seeking professional help, but since it's a rather private thing I'd prefer to avoid that if possible

4 months is pretty good, so clearly your situation isn't hopeless. Probably your issue is the same as for most addicts and it is only the habit and certain situations that trigger the habit that are hard for you to scrub. I'm an ex-smoker and when I quit after 10 years of smoking, the biggest problem was the typical situations where I used to smoke, rather than any actual withdrawals. Figure out what breaks your good streak and when you tend to turn to porn. Is it when you're bored, certain time of day or does stress or other such things make you do it more? Figure out the pattern of you habit and then when you try cutting it, be aware and wary of those problems. Prepare and figure out some other distractions you can turn to if you feel the urge.

Thanks a lot for the advice, thinking back, I definitely turn to porn when I'm stressed and looking for relaxation, or when I'm bored. I'll try quitting again while picking up a new hobby, maybe I can replace porn with something more productive.
The problem is that it's hard to find something that makes you feel good like masturbating, even though I don't like what it does to me, it's one of the few pleasures I have at this point in my life.
I believe the key is not to remove it but to moderate it
Go cold turkey for a month to reset then the next month give yourself a routine like I will masturbate every Tuesday and Friday at this time
The urges go down when it's not those days if you can stick to the routine for 21 days
There's no such thing as a porn addiction. You're just bored and lazy like most people.

I don't mind masturbating, but the problem is the porn, I feel like I'm addicted to it.

Thanks for your input, but I feel you've been misinformed. What is your academic background?
