My advice to you is to be persistent, to lower your standards, to try your best to overcome any lack of confidence and to do your best to overcome fears of rejection. Start with lower standards. You can raise them back up later, but getting some success under your belt will boost your confidence...and there are plenty of large girls out there starving for any attention from a dude.
And lastly, go work on improving your appearance, it really helps both attracting women and feeling confident about yourself. Go to /fit/, read the sticky, get your ass moving. I was a tradesmen for a while and went back to school. I got an engineering degree recently. A professor asked me to stay on and do research to get a phd. So im currently working on that. I have one paper published so far.

I have a close group of friends who stayed after graduating. We play a lot of board games. I have a larger number that went into industry I still grab a drink with when they come into town.

I have a few hobbies. I mainly work with my hands. I help run the black smithing club when i have time. Im not athletic enough for any sports now. I used to play basketball when i was young though.

I have a pretty solid family. My parents are supportive and my siblings still live close enough i go back and hang out with them. Im going to a concert with my sister here in the next month.

I would bet that you have not asked girls you thought you could never get while dismissing girls you are not so interested in. Focus on just getting any girl for now. Your best shot, initially, is on one youre not very attracted to. Thats what I'm saying. Its easier when you dont have all that much (if any) attraction as your spaghetti will be far easier to contain.

Try again. One thing that helped me with weight loss was realizing that it SHOULD be a long slow process, not just turning on an extreme diet and quitting a month later when you cant keep it up. Go slow and steady, make gradual improvements in your lifestyle that you can sustain indefinitely. Also, I find that I lack dieting willpower as well....and a low carb diet has worked very well for me. I can eat as much as I like, its just I cant eat certain foods. So long as I'm not hungry all the time, its really no big deal. I have been on this diet for several years now and its easy to keep up. But just as important, weight/strength traiing. You could even start with just body weight exercises...no gym required. Just push ups, sit ups dips, pull ups (you can buy an assist cord and pull up bar for less than $50).
BUt stop that fucking defeatist attitude, thats what landed you here in the first place. It sounds like you have a lot of positives in your life, you just need to make a commitment to yourself to get a girl. Do it!
