Im going on a date tomorrow. After we agreed she asked me about why have i been so down and blue lately. I told her that i will talk about this in person. Do i tell her that the reason is because my ex broke up with me after cheating on me or do i come up with a bullshit excuse

Self-esteem has taken a hit because unfaithful lover.
But I'm hopeful still and trying to brush that negativity aside.
Let's not get too into this tonight.
I'm primarily focused on having a nice time getting to know you.

i saw her daily at school and we would talk here and there. nothing close or anything. but we still knew eachother somewhat well
I was in position of a girl and it was driving me crazy when I didn't know. I tried to find the reason in myself I overthought about it like 'am I not enough ...'. Then I confronted him and he opened to me and said it's about his ex and he can't just get over such things easily. I would recommend to say the truth but without details.

well your first mistake is trying to get out there and date right after a breakup, shes just going to be a rebound. but whatever. so she knows somethings wrong now. just be honest. give her a brief explanation and then say something like "but enough about that," and put it behind you and forget about it. have fun, dont think about it, dont even have a conversation about it. talking about other relationships on dates is generally not a good idea.
