How long has it been. Ill let you know right now you probably broke your toe. People never notice they broke the little toe because it has no purpose and never has pressure on it since you dont use it to balance. I wish I went to the doctor when I broke mine. It did the same thing as yours where it broke half way. But it grew back wrong because the pressure (built up fluids) caused it to deform inside out kinda. Eventually a few years later the swelling went down but now the nail is flat and it still looks like something bad happened to it.
Go to the doctor if its recently damaged.
