Brush your teeth thoroughly, the process should help relax the muscles for a short time.

Alcohol. 3 shots should be enough to make it stop hurting.

If you go see a dentist, just have them pull the damn thing and give you painkillers for the following weeks. Don't bother trying to save the tooth. I've been in your position, and had to waste a lot of time and money and pain for nothing just to get it pulled again.

Get oil of cloves from pharmacy or health food store. Mix it half and half with something like olive oil, put on like a cotton ball, put on tooth/gum area. It will numb it.

If he's at the pharmacy, might as well pick up numbing oral gel instead. Unless cloves do more than numb on contact.

Aloe vera products do wonders. I used aloe toothpaste and massaged on where it hurt, but then again I didn't have pain that severe. There should be some sort of aloe cooling gel/cream for this kind of stuff.

Here's an off-the-wall idea. Ask the pharmacist. There's a fair chance that he/she knows something about medicines and might even have heard the question before.
