Do people really enjoy talking to each other? I can't figure it out, it's always such an effort for me.
>>
Yeah believe it or not, there's people who aren't autistic shut-ins
>>
>>17753566
Well I'm very jealous. I try to just enjoy it but unless I drink copious amounts of alcohol it makes me feel stupid and awkward.
>>
>>17753573
talk to people about things you like until you eventually find someone as enthusiastic as your topic of choice as you are.
>>
>>17753578
I guess the first step is finding things I like then.
>>
>>17753616
yeah that would be a good first step.
>>
>>17753578
Not OP but what to do when you hate everything? All people seem to talk about some stupid shit like snapshat or facebook, or feminists or spew out random uneducated opinions like what i'm doing right now, maybe if people weren't so unnerving it would be easier to talk to them?
>>
>>17753664
>what do you do when you hate everything
seek therapy
>people talk about stupid shit like shapchat and facebook
keep looking. I found people who are cool and dont talk about dumb stuff like that, you can too. Keep in mind while you think facebook and snapchat is dumb, people probably think the shit YOU want to talk about is dumb, it's all relative.

>Do people really enjoy talking to each other?

What a stupid, stupid question.
>>
>>17753565
Yeah, me too. It's such a chore. I prefer the company of myself to most others.
>>
>>17754557
>I prefer the company of myself to most others.
I always have too, but recently I've been feeling very isolated, to the point where I've discovered I need some socialisation. I do WANT to talk to people and befriend them but when I have the chance to do so I just can't manage it.
>>
I love nothing more than good conversation, but it's incredibly fucking hard to find now. The only thing the people I know talk about are programming related things which, while interested, are far beyond the scope of my knowledge
Or nintendo games
Or LMAO RETAIL WORK STORY UGGH EVERYBODY IS SO DUMB XDDD
>>
>>17754675
Same anon. Sometimes I hype certain people up in my brain who I respect and also think would have some nice bantz with, but then, because I've pedestalled them, I get too nervous to talk to them.
>>
>>17754693
that doesn't sound too bad. For me I really just can't think of anything to say despite wanting to talk. Normal people seem to have a talent for talking about nothing and just generally enjoying each other which I lack. I understand the nervousness though, I also get that.
>>
>>17754737
'Nothing' as in pleasantries and small talk is a real bore, but it's also incredibly mindless and generally easy if the other person is polite enough. If you want conversations that have more meaning, then this is generally a consequence after a bit of the small talk and some steering on your part, given the other person is on the same page.
>>
>Walk up to someone and greet
>Tries to find something in common
>Tries to listen carefully
>Tries to respond correctly
>Tries to think up something to talk about
>Shit I missed one word they said, what was it
>Ask them to repeat
>Still don't get it
>Nice weather anon
>Awkward silence
...
...
...
>Dismissed
I don't enjoy talking either :(
>>
It really depends on who you're talking to. There are two factors in this, firstly you have to connect with someone (I.e. really "get" them) and secondly the things they say have to be interesting to you. Obviously some people are easier to connect with, but if what they talk about I'd boring af, then talking to them is boring. Same thing, if someone speaks about things that interest you, but you don't really find that connection, it's still bothersome. But if you find someone who you both connect with and can talk about things that interest you, then yes, it's worth it. And even then it might be that they don't feel that connection or find what you say boring, so it's all really a gamble.
>>
>>17754752
It might be a bore but it makes up so much of normal conversation, and many people seem to enjoy doing it. I can actually handle a more meaningful conversation okay, but socially I feel like my minds stuck in that higher second gear and I can't shift down to the smalltalk. For example, someone will make a silly joke but all I can do is smile and chuckle in an inauthentic manner, like I'm not really engaged. Or alternatively I just blank out and can't think of anything to say at all, so I have to leave and it comes across as rude and awkward.

>>17754759
I feel you. I always end up tripping up somewhere.

>LMAO RETAIL WORK STORY UGGH EVERYBODY IS SO DUMB XDDD

Funny that people working in retail complain about other people being dumb.
>>
>>17754779
I mean sometimes the people they deal with are bafflingly, truly stupid.
And it's fun to share those stories.
But 99% of the time it's just them being shitty at their fucking job. Like, they're the ones you run into when you're trying to find something at a store or ask about a product they're specifically designated to sell and they just keep giving you shitty attitude, or that UGH, FINE, I'LL GO LOOK IN THE BACK bullshit.
Like bitch it's your job, quit fucking complaining.

And there's 0 substance to the stories. So it's just them complaining about nothing and showing that they're a fucking cunt

Your show sucks, I hope you die in a fire Charles.
>>

OP and some of the others don't understand the true essence of most idle conversation.

Bear with me for a bit of nature study. Monkeys and chimps like to "groom" each other, sitting together and taking turns picking nots out of each other's fur. Now, getting rid of nits is good, but monkey-watchers have figured out that it is really just and excuse for sitting together and being friendly

People generally don't pick nits off each other. But small talk is our equivalent. At least 80% of what any 2 or 3 or 7 people chat about is of no real interest to any of them, but just an excuse to be together and communicate friendliness.

The point is that you don't have to have anything deep to contribute to a chat session. Even an occasional "yeah" or "right" is keeping you within the community for the moment, sharing in the grooming session.

When worked retail, I never complained about people looking for stuff (unless it was on an impossible to miss fuck huge display at the store entrance) but I do wish they'd not make bad jokes about it. On a good day, I'd hear "If it was a snake" about 20-30 times.

Now people wanting to argue with you about food stamps, that was annoying. We don't make the rules and even if we did, no steamed snow crab legs seems reasonable to me.
