Can anyone help me out with an idea I had?

Basically, I want to make something of a difference on campus by escorting people who aren't comfortable walking home at night safely to their respective dorms/homes. I had thought of getting maybe 10 other students together, and each night we'd have two or three of us just sort scattered around common night-time locations of campus, and if someone felt unsafe on the way home, they could get one of us to walk with them. I imagined having a walky-talky and a go-pro for each person on shift, in addition to a tracfone number with each member's contact info on it, so if somebody wasn't immediately near any on-shift members, they could call the number and I'd call one of the on-duty people to go to wherever the person is. I'd make sure each person involved got a t-shirt or a badge or something and tell the authorities about it so they wouldn't think "lel gang activity.

Additionally, I thought I might try to get EMS/CPR training for everyone so we could help with medical emergencies

>Pros/issues I thought I'd run into:
+Available each night at multiple locations on campus
+takes some pressure off campus PD as far as escorting students
+Some students are uncomfortable around men/police, so with female members they might be more comfortable with us
-What will members do if confronted with an attacker/is it illegal for an organization like this to have members beat people up? (to avoid accusations that members randomly attack people, the go-pro would be on all shift long)
-What do I do as far as keeping female members/physically small members safe while on shift?
-Are the cops gonna have a shitfit over this?
-What would I do about getting it made school-official?

What is exactly the goal of this project? Are you going to charge people ir is it just a social work?

The go pro, EMS training etc IMO is way too much for whatever this thing is about, unless you live in the middle of a shithole. Just make a group on whatever messenger app you prefer and tell everybody to text the group if they plan on using the escorting thing.

>The goal
It'd be used by people who are more comfortable with a student walking around with them, who don't want to be in the back of a police car for whatever reason, or who for whatever reason just aren't comfortable with the police.
Additionally, it'd be something students who either don't want to or can't join CPD, but who still wanna help in this way. It'd also help build resumes and leadership-type skills while they're going to school here. Lastly, we would walk/drive people who are drunk at parties and shit home, depending on how harsh CPD here is on alcohol (I've never been able to find out since I don't know anybody who got caught drinking).

>Are you going to charge people
Nah, it'd be just a service. If I got enough people interested, I'd get us all together and run it by whichever office is in charge of clubs/student organizations, plus talk to the cops (who could worry about other shit instead of dealing with people who need someone to take them home.)

>go pro, EMS training etc is way too much
I think at MOST one or two EMS-trained members would be good, just because someone might pass out drunk and hit their head outside or something, and that way there's a chance one of the members could help out. The go pro would be, in VERY dire circumstances where someone needed their ass kicked (potential rapist attacking someone they were following, someone getting mugged, etc. This campus is kinda crimey), to A: show that the member wasn't just beating some random person up for no legally good reason, and B: if someone was committing a crime, they'd be on camera. Plus if someone decided to accuse someone involved with this gig of some crime ("That escort guy raped me!" "Hey look at this spray paint on the side of this building, must be those escort kids!"), we'd have proof of whether or not it was true (again, members would be required to wear it the WHOLE time they were on shift)
I dig the messenger app idea, tho

This is a good idea anon, my uni has this as well. I'm sure you wouldn't have trouble finding people willing to join or even just help structure the program from an executive position. My advice is to find a few people on campus who might be interested and develop the structure from there.

Tell me about your campus' program.
>name
>what do members do
>how do they handle some of the above circumstances
>where all do they go

Are you on amphetamines?

I don't know man, you idea is nice but dealing with drunks and irresponsible people is dangerous. If something goes slightly wrong they could sue you and you could end up in trouble for filming people and playing Batman aka, beating random people on the street. Why not limit it to escorting sober people? Start with something like foreign students, people new in town, etc. Make sure you don't mix too many guys with one girl because that could also mean trouble. Also remember shy and introverted people prefer not t interact with people so make a plan for this scenario

There are many campuses that have programs like this. I believe campus security runs one at the University of Calgary, and it's called Safewalk. I'm unfamiliar with their logistics but I do know that it's staffed by volunteer students. Maybe contact them or some other universities with what you're doing, I'm sure they'd be happy to share how they do things and provide some guidance.
>>
The school I went to you could call campus security and they'd walk you home.

I mean, I wouldn't have it be a "hey this guy is following me come beat his ass lol" deal; the sole reason I mentioned any kind of violence would be because our campus in particular is well-known for being "the rape campus," and so someone COULD get attacked physically. But I get what ya mean. I'm definitely gonna look into the whole recording thing, because my state's laws seem to be funny about it, but it'd be more for the wearer's legal safety than anything.

As far as shy people, that's a good point. Would having someone just show up and not say anything unless necessary when an introvert calls work?

>>17749416
Yes, we're actually one of the top meth states in the union
>>
>>17749431
Also remember the health and safety of the volunteers. Maybe you could negotiate a special insurance or medical service with the campus if anything goes wrong. As the leader of this project, it should be your number 1 priority.

The problem with introverts is that they might find the program too intimidating so they woulnd't actively sign up for the program. My cousin used to work at the same place I do and most people didn't even know her name. She rarely talked

>health and safety
That's why I wanted walky-talkies and POSSIBLY (depending on how shit goes the first few weeks) some kind of self defense training, whether from the CPD or the self-defense/martial arts-y clubs on campus. As a boxer, I'm not worried about myself, so much as I am my people and the people we're escorting. But that's definitely something I'd put a lot of thought into if I got this going.
As far as insurance/medical stuff, would I just talk to the campus health center about that?

>introverts
One idea that popped up when I got this idea at work today was that we could have an official "safe trail" somewhere in the middle of all the on-shift members where they could be seen for most of the way.

Many universities have this already. Google "campus escort service"
