How do I become self sufficient and disciplined? I grew up with a single mother and most of my free time in high school was spent watching the paint dry since I was always grounded.
I'm 19 and I can't even drive.

This is what I would tell my 19yo self; there's no magic pill for getting motivated. Just keep in mind that if you don't do anything now, a decade later you'll still be trying to accomplish the same things like self sufficiency and discipline. I'm 28 and haven't even attempted to get my drivers license.

Go to college or get a job, just get your life moving, even if you don't have it in you, pretend you do.

So fake it until I make it?

Do anything to achieve what you need to achieve.

I'm 27 and was the same way OP.
I spent the majority of high school grounded. Really put a damper on my self image.
I did not have an open relationship with my parents. I hid a lot of things that i did due to them not being receptive to a kid being a kid. I never asked them for advice or wanted to even be around them in return.
I still struggle to make it to work on time but I'm living with a roommate now, have two OK paying jobs, my own car etc.
I struggle getting tasks done on time or keeping my wife's when i day I'm going to do something at a set time. I'm working on it.
OP you are going to have to step out of your comfort zone and get a job so you can pay for the things that you need. Start there, go to school if you want outer else join the work force and start working your way up. Always improve and try not to make the same mistake twice.
Good luck.
