The business I started failed and now I have to go back to working for my dad's business. What do I say when the staff ask me why I'm back? How do I explain my business failed in a way that doesn't make me look like a complete loser?
Why would you care if people 'think' you're a loser? You went out, tried something and failed. That's one of the potential consequences of starting a business. Taking such a risk is a lot more than most people do.
Their opinions do not matter.
look for another job. family and business don't mix.
in the meantime, fuck 'em, who cares what they think.

They're still going to ask what happened.
And I will still need a good answer.

You don't have to tell them anything if you don't want to, just say you decided to come back to work for your dad to make some extra cash. Considering it's your dad asking "why did you come back to work here" seems unusual anyway, I mean it's a family business.

I have to say something.
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:
If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!
- Rudyard Kipling

Say your dad asked you to come back.

That's good.
What about my business though?

Aliens.

Not good enough.
>>17702692
You tell them how it is.
"My business venture didn't work out." and leave it at that. Don't try to fluff it and make it anything more or less than it is.
Anything beyond that, they can eat a bag of dicks.

what was your business? why did it fail? are those reasons related to being a 'loser' or is it just the will of the economy?
i thought money solves every fucking problem ever? too stupid to tell them capitalism just isnt what it used to or are you really just a loser? youd think with inheriting your dads good businessman genes, youd be a natural, especially considering you probably have a lot of experience and all. honestly just fucking kill yourself. your dad is going to die someday and will need someone to run it when he's gone. his logically first choice will be his the first born heir to his legacy, our wonderful op, but since you cant even manage that with you genetic advantage AND experience AND resources available you'll probably just run it into the ground. fuckhead

ayyy

There is only one reason why a bussiness fails; not enough money
Make light of it.
"Well, they can't all be zingers, ya know?"
OP you do know that most small business fail within a couple years right? nobody's gonna look down on you because your business failed. if they do, then they obviously know nothing about business. and if they know nothing about business, then their opinion about your business doesn't count. there you go.

It was an eBay business.

I know all that but I still need a good answer that's respectable.
