>been 3 weeks into my first year at college and haven't made friends yet, 21/M/Bi if it matters

Am I just fucked at this point? Due to work, I wasn't able to go to a lot of the first-week icebreakers. I'm only able to go to 1 club, which is going okay I suppose. For the most part, I'll just occasionally chime in with something funny or bring up a relevant topic. Frats were all over me, but I can't afford that shit (my campus' cheapest one is $85)).

My perceived problem is that I can easily with others, but I never know what to say. Like, I can often come up with legitimate jokes when someone else brings up something specific, but I have huge problems actually carrying a conversation. I dress well and look a bit above-average, even had some girls approach me between classes the first few weeks, but I was too dense to realize I should get their numbers.

What should I be doing to better my social skills or even make friends? Any preferred readings, practices, or anything is great really.

What college?

It's one of the University of Michigan's satellite campuses. About 8000 on-campus in a small, shitty city.

In today's social climate, making new friends is harder than ever. I made some when i went to college, and it wasn't too hard.

But, I would focus on studying and working more than socializing. College wasn't made to hang out or socialize, it is a place of study and work and learning. Media and mainstream society has made it seem like college is supposed to be this one big social intellectual party palace. It's not, just focus on what's important.

There are a lot of others your age there, but many of them also work part or full time, and so aren't very visible. Since many take evening classes, try hanging out at the snack bar at dinner time.
