OP, sometimes an ex really can just be a good friend. When two people mutually lose romantic interest in each other and don't hate one another, they can be friends. This is a real phenomenon. I used to hook up with this guy in high school and we've been best friends for like 7 years, and it's been strictly nonsexual for like five years. I think she just wanted you to know he's her ex so you don't feel lied to when you find out they used to date. If she were going to sleep with him, she wouldn't have told you she was studying with him to begin with.
