You could make it up if you wanted. Or you could just say what it was and explain your were taking a lower salary because it is a family company.

If you have value to them, you hold the cards, so it shouldn't matter much. I mean what are they going to do, not hire the guy with the skills they've been searching for because he got low pay at his last job? It makes no sense. But if you are replaceable putting the right range in their mind would help.

I made zero due to a regulation, that left them in the unknown. So they followed it up and asked if my salary range was ok and checked I wouldn't laugh at their offer.

Doesn't matter unless you're actually willing to work for the lower amount. You can tactfully ask them if they are willing go to an amount you'd accept. If you had someone negotiating for you they would keep calling them.

I'm getting hired by Amazon, and my answer for expected salary is that I am confident that this will be in line with the market and the responsibilities of the position.

I still don't click that submit button. Is it a good answer? I am researching and everywhere it says that I should push the question until I get a job offer.
