It's okay to go alone, but it's not good, if that makes any sense. Everyone there with someone else will have a social one-up on you, and it is fair to ask why you wouldn't have any friend who is both presentable and willing to go.

Sorry if that's harsh. You don't need to be discouraged. You can find a friend to go with, or go alone anyway. Some clubs/bars are very friendly to newcomers, and you might have a friend in no time.
