I don't think I'm a terrible person, I just probably don't give them a friendly vibe, maybe they think I secretly hate them or whatever. Or maybe I'm just not the type of person they want to hang out with.

Making best friends is hard.

I think you just have to manage to spend a lot of time with another person until you both get used to it and to the point where you feel confident/like you have nothing to hide. Sadly it's pretty hard to get that much time with a someone unless you work/study together.

All my friends that I talk to regularly are old classmates/collueges.

Be as honest and open as possible. This will help.
Stop pretending. Gain strength by admitting weakness.
