What's a polite way of ignoring people? I want to go out and meet new people but I'm afraid that they'll like me buy I won't like them, and if I just ignore them I'll feel like an asshole.

Ignoring is never polite its even rude so don't do that. Just excuse your self and go talk to someone else or something. Sometimes you just have to talk to people even when you don't like them especially in group environment.
Go out and do it and you will figure out what to do just keep in mind this. Don't do to others what you wouldn't like to be done to you.

There is no polite way to ignore people and there is no way to be straight to someone's face about not liking them.
The socially accpetable thing to do is be cordial with them when you're forced to speak to one another and limit your interactions. Most people can tell when you don't like them and will back off of you once they sense that vibe.

No sorry, I didn't mean when I'm actually with them. I meant like if I meet them but I don't really like them, but they already have my contact info and ask to hang out again.
