When I was young I used to be able to talk to girls fine as friends, but putting myself out there in any kind of non-platonic manner terrified me. My peers were hooking up with chicks while I couldn't even muster up the courage to ask one out. I would have crushes and never do anything about it. It was misery. Finally one day I asked out a girl, and she rejected me, but I felt so fucking proud of myself for trying that I didn't care. From there it got easier. Like anything the more you do it the less scary/better you become at it. Eventually I became known as the fearless guy who'd talk to any bitch. I once hopped out of my friends car at a red light, ran to the car behind us, and told the girls in it to follow us. They did, and one of those girls went on to become my prom date. The moral of the story is it's not too late for you, you just need to force yourself to do it again and again until you master it. And you're gonna get rejected, but rejection doesn't feel nearly as bad as you currently do about your situation.
