Follow a three part structure. For example, the thesis should have three arguments supporting it. Each argument should have at least three points. Each paragraph ought to have the sentences. You get the picture....
Besides that, for the rough draft I always just write everything down in bullet points. Then later, flesh it out.
Also be sure to write on something that actually interests you .. And above all, have loads of criticism to cite from.

Make your first paragraph on notes of what you want to say. more like a super rough draft that guides your paper. After you finish writing it go back to and redo the first paragraph.

What's your essay on?

Drill structure into you to the point where it becomes second nature.
Start in the middle. Intro paragraphs are the worst and there's no point in writing them if you're not sure about the content in the body anyway
start with just getting anything down, even if it's nonsense. You can always edit and refine from there

Pretty much these. The standard:
Introduction
Body
--arg 1
--arg 2
--arg 3
--counterpoints and why they are bullshit
Conclusion
Fancy list of sources
This basically never fails. In fact if you realize how retarded this sounds, and try to get clever, you will get a worse grade because the prof will be too lazy to follow it.

Do couple small essays, about 150 words each... after atleast 5 of those you will be able to write a single 600 word essays with ease.
Just keep at it. Write whatever comes to your mind. However, you have to revise. Your first draft is always going to be shit. Revise. Write. Repeat until deadline or until you're happy with what you wrote.
