Sup /adv/,
Current situation: Been dating this Japanese girl for a little over a year. She's visited me twice, I've visited her 3 times and we talk regularly over LINE / gtalk / email.
I think I'm in love. I can't stop thinking about her. Long distance relationship is hard though.
Should I move to Japan? I presently work a remote job and I've worked remotely while in Japan recently - its not that hard. Problem is, don't you need to be a citizen? If I'm a remote employee, I don't have a work visa.
Then there's the language barrier. I've been learning Japanese on my own for about a year, but I got a long way to go. There's also things like where the fuck do I live at? She lives just outside of north western Tokyo in the Oume prefecture. What's rent like? Can I buy a house? What would I do for a car? Would I even need one?
tl;dr
Move to Japan Y or N to be with girlfriend?

I vote Y
also you cant buy shit gajin you have to marry her
I moved to Japan 4 years ago and have been living in Tokyo. You don't need a car unless you live in the countryside and rent isn't that expensive compared to western cities. You don't need to buy a house.
You need a bachelor's degree to get a work visa sponsored by a company in Japan.
Ask her first.

That's what I figured.

I don't have a degree. I dropped out, but still make great money (150 grand a year).

She's already asked me about it. I'm dragging my feet.

How?

Computer work anon. It's not like I didn't study on my own though - years and years of hard work learning stuff. I know C, C++, php, perl, python, assembly (x86/x64, ARM, 6502), C#, VB, and java. Over the last 12 years I've been a programmer, sys admin, tech support monkey, security admin, malware analyst, anti-virus researcher and penetration tester. I've spoken at conferences, written white papers, the whole shebang. I took a skill and mastered it. Now I charge what ever I want for it.
If I set my mind to work on something I usually get what I want. Maybe I should have set my sights on an american girl?

Fuck no, American girls are HOPELESS. I've never met a single American girl that was worth the trouble.
Wife your Japanese girlfriend and enjoy your wonderful life.

I've been working in finance for three years doing tech stuff and I want to work from home myself. Any tips on getting those initial contracts?
I know C++ (pretty deeply), Python, some Perl and some other stuff. Confident enough to learn anything else I have to including web stuff.
Also, don't you ever get lonely?
I guess it's not like I have friends at work, but I'd completely be devoid of human contact other than my wife if I worked from home.

Got a github account? Contribute to some open source projects (linux kernel, glibc, gimp, whatever) and post that shit on your resume. Have a website and blog with all your projects on it. From there, head over to guru.com and bid on some contracts. The last several side work contracts I've gotten (diff from full time gig) have been from people finding me on the net either via my website, linkedin, guru, or whatever.

I'll keep it in mind - I never felt as enthusiastic as some people seemed to be about coding for free (it's not really a hobby for me anymore) so I never really used it.
To be honest I will probably hit $150k in a couple years in my current job so maybe I should just stick with that. I hate wearing a suit though. I wish life were more like 2d instead of being surrounded by drones. :(
Do you text her every day or what? I'm recently just got into an LDR and don't know how many times I should text her per week
Want to be friends, by the way? Skype's in the name field. If you impart me some career wisdom I'll help you navigate Japan better.
