No, the only way to tell is if you can get them to use drugs.

This man is a cop. Don't believe his lies. Not only do they have to tell you they're cops, they also have to tell you where their cop friends are hiding. And if you ask them for the keys to their cop car, they have to say yes. They'll say no at first, but on the third time, they're legally required to give them to you. If they don't, you can just take them.

am cop can confirm
It's not true. I've been to underground's, they always say no and the dude gets caught up with bags.

This.
Police forces often have mandatory drug tests and such, so even undercover, almost all police officers would be reluctant.
THAT SAID, informants often have some form of immunity, an already established cover with connections and can play rather loosely with the law so long as they tip the cops off or gather evidence.
If you're small time, you'll probably have to worry about informants more than undercover police officers.
If you're into some deep shit, then undercover cops are a problem, but you can offer "samples" without being done for dealing, as an arrest then would blow their cover.

No they dont have to tell you anything and in fact can lie to you with impunity. Don't trust cops, don't talk to cops, always lawyer up.
