what would you do in my situation?

ask your folks for some shitbox money or finagle a loan
weres your insurance payout?
>>17525484
I have $3k in savings, but I can't buy a shitbox because it's a "waste of money" and will most certainly die within a few days of buying it.
>>17525498
none, limited liability only, rolled the car.
>>17525511
then it sounds like your folks should have enough money to pony up for a "safe and wholesome vee-hickle" for their precious child

yeah, they keep saying I don't have to buy a shitbox because they will loan me some money, but it just seems like a never ending cycle. it's been about 3 weeks and I'm getting all kinds of pressure to get a car. but when I say inwill just spend 3k on a used high mile, they say that's stupid. when I say I'll get one for 10-12k they say sounds good, but why pay 12k for a 2007-8 when you could have a 2015-2016 for a few thousand more with a warranty or whatever. then when I say okay I'll finance a car, "well can you afford that on your income, I don't think you should take that burden on and live your life to pay off a car" it's like wtf do you want me to do.

Stop involving your parents. Continue your search for a vehicle on your own. I bought a 2007 Ford Fusion from the Police Department a town over for 2.5k. They retired the vehicle because they were upgrading, so it's still in good condition. I've had it for a little over a year now. Your parents are fucking insane if they expect you to pay more than 5k as a server.
>>17525566
how can I not involve them if I still live here?
>>17525466
Alternative transportation if possible if your insurance company knows. I totaled my $10k civic when I was 21 but I was able to drive it home and didn't notify insurance so my premiums didn't go up. I bought a new car a bit later. Now that I'm older tho, I wouldnever buy a new car even though my salary can afford it. Cats are one of the fastest depreciating assets. You're already 25 and should be thinking more about your future rather than transportation. Do you really want to be a server living with your parents into your 30s?

Also, my last two cars I got from the local insurance car auctions, for under 1 grand each.
>>17525654
yeah but all those cars die after about a week.
>>17525558
they sound like fucking genuine idiots
just go out there and find a passable shitbox that you can maintain yourself. if they have a problem tell em to crash their "pre-owned" volvo into a tree and see how it works out for them

Just tell them you're handling it and then continue your search. It's not hard to find decent cars for cheap, just need to see papers showing upkeep.
