How does one cope with failure and not let it effect their self-esteem

failing isn't what failures do. failures never do anything. everyone is scared sometimes.
everyone loses sometimes. literally everything anyone does has a probability of failing. sometimes you're unlucky. sometimes you're unprepared. sometimes you cripple yourself because you dont think you'll succeed and your brain literally enjoys being right about that kind of thing.
try to learn from it. if you're doing your best to improve that's all anyone (even yourself) can ask from you. nothing more. if you're not doing your best to improve, then start. leave no stone unturned. that is what succeeding is.

Realize that you are a pathetic waste of human flesh, that you have constantly and consistently fucked up at every possible stage of your miserable existence, and that your only saving grace is your (hopefully) short lifespan.

Then realize this is bullshit. True, but bullshit. If you want to go do something, go and fucking do it. No hesitation, no regret. Only now that you have learnt that failure is inevitable can you be truly fearless.Nothing you do can make things any worse, as you fail already, so do ANYTHING. Cheesy pickup lines to that cute girl, go get smashed in a pub and pick a fight, try skydiving. Why not? It's not like you'll not fail, so no pressure.
