I can do this when one-on-one, not with groups. For example, I was talking about democracy and illusion of choice in the US and post-democracy (edgy, I know, but a serious topic) while actually smiling and making jokes. It deems me a retard.

You're probably right. Not because it's comforting to throw blame but because you can't really go through 2 semesters with the same person and not pick up on their humour. Surprisingly, girls understand me more there, and they can shift between fun and serious quite quickly. Eventually it's just child's play here, and really irrelevant. You'd expect second-year students to be brighter, but you're stuck with a pack who's trying to make a better first impression by dressing well and being arrogant, a pack who are still stuck at high-school, and a pack who are right at where you left them T B H it doesn't seem like people change much after highschool, and rarely get brighter.
