So I interviewed for this job 2 weeks ago. The job says it "Starts on Sep 1st, but this is flexible." Obviously it is August 31st at 6 pm and I still haven't heard anything. Can I assume I didn't get the job or hold out longer? Honestly would be relieved either way

If you didn't get an answer the day after the interview you shouldn't hope for anything anymore...

Well I wish I knew that earlier. I thought the interview went well so I've been stressing this whole time

They also said I was the first applicant they interviewed and would wait a while before contacting me, but whatever I can relax now

Did you call them after the interview?
It's always a good thing to show interest.

No. I don't like feeling like a pest and I doubt it would have helped.

It's pretty poor of an employer to not contact someone after interview. Applications go in the bin all the time or you get a general 'sorry not this time' email back. But when you've been invited to interview and taken the time to see them, possibly taking a day off work to do so. That they can't even take a couple of minutes to make a call or send an email afterwards is rather rude. If they don't show basic manners to people outside their organisation, who knows how they treat staff under them.
