Every set of strings I've ever bought, the top two strings were a different colour. Not sure why.

that's perfectly normal.

the lower strings are wrapped, the high E and B will be unwrapped. if I recall correctly, it's the same way with both nylon strings and steel strings. different thicknesses of wire give different tones at the same tension. I'm no luthier, but I'm guessing that this way they can have the tension on the strings be more or less uniform. easier to play and less stress on the instrument.

what kind of strings did you have on there before? steel or nylon? and what kind do you have now?

No you weren't ripped off. Also don't be surprised if it gets out of tune really fast in the start. This is all normal. Enjoy playing. Don't forget to do your spider exercise daily. And try to cover a lot of songs! Enjoy playing bruah!

I don't remember really. It's just that I think the overall tone of the bottom 4 strings and the top two is different, and that the top two sound rather screechy and thin. probably just need to get some new strings.

They're supposed to be like that. If you look at an electric guitar you will too see that the 3 bottom ones are wrapped and the above are just like steel wire. Don't get new strings there's nothing wrong with them.
