21 straight male here. I'm ashamed of my sexual thoughts. Not for any religious reasons, I've became this way just through observation and life.
It doesn't feel right to be close to someone so much that you're touching genitals with each other. Society and media shuns any sexuality or nudity. People are labeled as perverts if they like it too much. Guys are called creeps, girls are called sluts. People refer to their parts as their nether regions. Most things people consider gross comes from those parts - shit, piss, blood, cum, etc. On top of that, sex exposes you to danger of pregnancy and STDs, two things I'm deathly afraid of happening to me. Then there's the risk of false rape accusations, tarnishing relationships with others, people judging you, etc. all because you had sex with someone.
I'm too scared to date anyone for these reasons. I find it inherently disgusting to approach people. I think I'm a creep for even thinking about girls I know in a sexual way, and I'm sure many girls would be creeped out if they knew I thought of them that way. You never are allowed to straight up say you want to have sex to anyone, despite sex being the most human thing one can want. Even if I could get over asking someone out, that opens a whole new can of worms. Dating alone is a whole ordeal. It's an absolutely huge time and money sink.
If I didn't have sexual thoughts I could focus and spend time on things that could lead to a successful career. I could look at women objectively and not be scared of talking to them. I wouldn't be so insecure about my self-image and virginity.
I wish I didn't want romance. These desires have brought nothing but misery in my life. My life went downhill the minute I started getting invested in dating and sex.
My question is how do I get rid of these desires?

You're a human being, so you will always have these desires. I mean i guess you could turn to heroin, that would take your mind off it (joking). But to expect a change in biological desire is foolish thinking. Embrace your humanity.

where do you live? in what kind of society?
and I like that you still want to get a career that isn't fucking usefull bc you don't even have or wanna have kids to spend the money on (bc that's why we get a job anyway, for future generations).

The problem with embracing it is that it's just going to lead to more complications and issues. Maybe I'm pessimistic but I've heard way too many stories about shitty relationships, divorces, custody battles, heartbreak, accidental pregnancies, STDs, etc.

My feeling might not be the most logical I'll give you that.
I live in the United States. Possibly one of the more religious areas (small Arizona town) but I grew up with non-religious parents. I did get the whole abstinence spiel in high school sex ed though.
I want to get money to spend on material things I like - a car, house, entertainment system, video games, etc. I also want the recognition of others through my work.

Media maybe not but society? Definitely in my experience. Everyone I've ever met has said you shouldn't get caught up with relationships in college, or that virginity isn't a big deal, or that sex is overrated. They downplay it as much as possible. Also, think of all the people who think low of those who dress in skimpy outfits or are hitting on people all the time. The fact that so many people find it impossible to find the right time to approach a girl as to not look creepy is enough evidence as well.

These thoughts aren't harmful. Just know that pretty well everyone has those kinds of things going through their heads. We're all animals pretending to be civilized. It's called the element of irreducible rascality. You can either fight you're natural tendancies or find an outlet that is non-harmful. It's like a game. So you could try to accept the weirdness of being human, or if you really want to control your thoughts you should look into meditation and thought stopping techniques.
But we are ridiculous creatures so if you do get over this thing you'll probably find another messed up aspect of existing to focus on.
