Although I'm off to an ivy, how risky is it to major in something like film/music if I'm trying to get into or make connections with the entertainment industry?
You know that connections alone won't get you a job, right?

Yeah, but when it comes to something like the industry, it will.

Extremely.
But if you're okay with failure and doing it out of passion then go for it.
If you're just looking for a payday you have better options.

this is my concern. Do you think if I minored in film or music I could still form such bonds?

No.
Because there are going to be plenty of other people who are going to major in it and attempt to make connections, so why would they consider you before them?
So unless your doing this because its a dream of yours, a passion you are persuing and somthing you will be happy with whether you win or lose, dont even bother wasting the time or energy.
I think it's safe to say that 99% of people who major in film or music are not successful in that domain to the extend that they set out for. More importantly, 99% of people who are successful in that domain to the extend that they wished for did not pursue higher education in filmography/musical theory or did not achieve it primarily because of it. It is not "risky" to major in film/music, it is just plain the incorrect choice. It is a heavy investment with no return. It is based on the concept that just because you can learn at school to be successful at certain things, like the medical/law domain, that it should apply to everything else. It does not apply to everything else. It does not apply to the film/music industry. You should either start working immediately in the entertainment industry, producing your own material or working under someone who does, or you should study something else. Any other choice is unwise.

Major in English (to develop critical skills and taste), Business (for practical knowledge) or whatever you're interested in (to make the 4 years enjoyable) and do your entertainment stuff extracurricular (theatre group, music, organizing concerts, whatever)
