Not so much material things. My mom loves me unconditionally so I can never get too angry but she's also pretty selfish, neurotic, and incompetent. I had too figure out a lot of things on my own (blame goes to dad for that too). I didn't really realize that my mom wasn't doing that great a job though until I realized how much cleaner and more stable everyone else's homes were. I think I'm not the only child of alcoholics that can say you realize very late into your youth that it isn't normal for your parents to go through a double bottle of wine every night and to deal with all of the subsequent problems that causes.

Also, after my parents had been divorced for quite some time (4-5 years) I walked in on them having sex when I was like 10 years old. My Dad was remarried at the time, and I think this really fucked up my ability to deal with trusting people in a relationship, but I'm not sure as I never really talked about it before.

My parents are the overprotective type so i also think they didnt really do a good job at parenting like op thinks even though they also spoilled me

not OP, quoting my own post for clarity.

In my case I see it as trying to compensate the lack of a real "connection" with material stuff, like, I can't remember a lot of straightforward conversations with my mother about my feelings or getting to know me or such, but she has always provided, even non essentials such as games and instruments, I just feel we stopped being "friends" at some point.

i feel the same way bud with my folks, parents gave me pretty much everything material wise but my childhood pretty much consisted of sitting in fear on social interaction/autistic and spending all my weekends in the house watching porn/vidya. When i was younger i didn't know how that stuff would effect me but that's in the past for me, i just appreciate what i had realizing my parents had very good intentions and improve myself on my own/
