Ayy /adv/isors,

So I have some ear problems.

I was listening to music stoned from speakers in late June when my ears started hurting. I thought nothing of it and continued listening (idiot, I know, I should kms) and it got really, really bad after a few songs in, so I naturally stopped.

My left ear felt full and I couldn't pop it for like 5 days, not to mention the fact that all noises sounded "off" and they hurt my ears. I went completely soundless for like 15 days after that.

Things sound pretty normal now, but my tinnitus has worsened and I can only listen to a certain amount of noise daily without my ears getting "fatigued" and making hearing painful. I've given up watching TV shows and anime entirely and avoid conversation when I can. I save up all of my "listening points" for music, which I haven't even been listening to much at all as of late.

I saw my GP and took a simple hearing test. The results came back fine. She said to contact her again in a month if my symptoms (misophonia I guess) persisted.

I'm torn between seeing an ENT and waiting this out to heal on its own. What do you think?

This might be a stupid question, but do you clean out your ears regularly? I had similar problems to you and the reason was that years if waxy buildup were literally pressing against my auditory nerves.

Get your GP, an EMT specialist, or am audiologist to clean out your ears if you suspect that's the problem. After that, pure some clean water into your ears every other day and let it sit there for about ten seconds each.

I think that when it comes to this type of bullshit u need to tread litely
If it were going to 'heal naturally', i would suspect it to heal over a period of a week
keep saving ur hearing points until u get to a point of not having any

Seconding this.

That's not misophonia, misophonia is a negative emotional response to a certain sound that is a pet peeve.

I don't know what you had to deal with, OP, but it sounds more like it could've been an infection that resolved itself.

Did you have any sort of crackling when your ears popped, or a pressure in your ears that was released when they popped? Did you have any sort of throat, sinus, or upper respiratory infection a couple weeks earlier?

jesus

bullet sized wax ear schmutz? LOL

My GP took a look in my ears and said they were clean. I've never had blockage problems before this of any kind.

I've never had an ear infection, and wasn't feeling sick at all even months prior to this happening. Nothing "lead up to it" that I know of besides the pain itself.

I do remember a desire to pop my ears during that 5 day period when I couldn't pop my left ear; so there may have been pressure buildup. I can't imagine why else I would want to pop my ears (I have never felt the desire before, besides plane flights or car trips in places that had high elevation).

I don't remember any crackling of any kind.

I should also add that smoking weed makes my ears MUCH worse now. Sounds, especially sustained sound (like music or sounds coming from a speaker) is absolutely unbearable. Even before exposing my ears to sound when I'm high they just get so much more sensitive to noise. If I listen to anything for even a small amount of time they'll hurt for the duration of the high and a bit afterwards. If I avoid sound entirely (ear plugs+decent noise isolating headphones) then they just stay "poised to hurt"; like a warning to avoid any sounds. It's weird.

Ear infections often happen after an upper respiratory infection, but not exclusively. If they do happen, the tubes that allow normal drainage out of the ear swells shut, and there's a fluid and pressure build up in the middle ear, often without any other symptoms except maybe a fever. Once they clear up, it can leave residual tinntus for up to a few months.

If symptoms continue to improve you're probably okay, but the pain in response to sound is still worrying. You should probably go for a second opinion.

Yeah, that's probably a good idea. Thanks.
