I fucked up a year ago and cost my parent tuition money. They're now keeping my social security card and trying to prevent me from getting a job/learning to drive unless I do it through them.
What should I do here?
Find out what it takes to get a new card and apply, yours is stolen essentially. Do not tell your family, and If it comes in the mail check the mail every day before they do. Keep it in a safe place and don't tell them you have it. I believe the number on the old and new card will be different as well, by the way.

How exactly is he going to learn it if they won't give it to him to see? How's he going to use it as a form of proof to get his license? Many states require it being present.

I don't think so though, I've requested new ones once or twice and they've always been the same. it's not like a credit card acct #. idk if there is a way to change your social security number.
but OP yeah, what they did is not legal. call cops.
