Is it possible to live in New York while attending college and living on your own? Do people ever put 2 beds in an apartment to cut rent prices in half?

How much money do you have? What does your job pay?
>>
>>17470503
Right now I'm saving with a couple hundred bucks and I was hoping to be a waiter or something and I can probably afford around 600 a month scraping by
>>
>>17470512

lol
>>
>>17470512
not even close to enough
>>
>>17470555
Well no shit that's why I said split a room dorm style. Instead of 1000 a month for rent it'd be like 600 right?
>>
At 600 a month, you'll probably need 2, maybe 3 other roommates to cover a 2 br here, which is probably going to be somewhere around 1400 if it's in the city or any non-ghetto area.

Also, who would you be rooming with if you did move here? These people are insanely self-absorbed and it's be hard to find someone you wouldn't mind actually living with. You learn the worst things about someone when you live with them.

You wish rent in NYC was 1000/mo
>>
>>17470574
Well I'm not going to the heart of Manhattan

>>17470567
Yeah but the post is about putting 2 beds in one room
>>
>>17470567
Also why I say 2-3 other people is because of utilities and necessity. That 1400 is just the rent, doesn't mean heat, hot water, gas, or electric is going to be included. Plus security, which is an extra months worth of rent, in case of damages or something, is usually demanded up front as well. This whole process is going to be expensive as shit.

Rent in gentrified bushwick is on average 2k :x

My friend is a real estate agent and the cheapest he has is 1700 a month for a rectangle apartment. Don't even get me started on metrocards.

The Jews are pushing everyone but yuppies out :/
>>
>>17470578
Ha! You wish the heart was 1400. That would be a dream. I'm out in the corner of the Bronx, look up where Throggsneck is. All the way out here, that's what the rent is. Unless you want to be stuck in the projects, you're going to need either 2 jobs or a career just to get by here. This is competition city.
>>
Your gonna live outside Manhattan. Queens is your best bet, since Brooklyn rent is skyrocketting and Bronx is for Dominicans n niggers. Neighborhoods to avoid in queens are like Jamaica and Rockaway. Living in Manhattan are for wealthy businessman, athletes and musicians. If you truly want to live in Manhattan, your gonna share an apartment with 5 college kids above a smelly Chinese restaurant in a shit neighborhood.

>1000 a month
>NYC
The answer is quite simply no, you can't. You have to have an income and few roomates if you are lucky enough.
>>
>>17470589
I was thinking Harlem Bronx or crown heights
>>
>>17470589
So how the fuck does anyone compete if you can't even get in without being rich
>>
>>17470610
College students don't compete. People with good jobs do.
>>
This is literally why they say if you can make it in New York you can make it anywhere. It's hard enough just to survive there let alone thrive. If you aren't ready to struggle look up states nearby or something that have a lower average living cost.
>>
>>17470610
You don't, you just slowly go broke. I believe there's more tax entering from Jersey into Manhattan than it is the Bronx because it's literally an amusement park of a city. Price wise an everything. I currently don't know what I'm going to do, because I moved back here from new jersey 3 years ago and just being from there ruined my reputation here. Wish that could be a joke but it isn't. That's how pompous this city is.
>>
>>17470663
Isn't San Francisco more expensive than ny though
>>
$1200/month here in Arizona for a Two Bed/2 Bath condo with 1400 sqft plus patio in one of the nicest suburbs..

Why the hell would anyone want to live in NYC?
>>
>>17470495

Sure the homeless do it all of the time.

I don't even live in NYC and I pay over $2k/mo for a one bedroom.

Forget it. You're better off living out of a car, which might not be the worst option considering you can partially afford the rent for a parking space.
