Now I am torn between using the safe-switch or actually telling her, I don't know even though we always talk and actually get along very well I suspect that she likes me. I just don't wanna make things awkward.

You already have. One-sided feels kill friendships, whether or not they are acted upon. Asking her out will not make it any deader.

And who knows? Maybe you'll get lucky, and the feels will turn out not to be one-sided after all. That's the only chance you have of saving this, and to make it happen, you have to ask.

Exactly. I was in a similar situation except I knew the girl liked me too. She had a boyfriend that she would use as leverage when she sensed I grew distant. Cut her off completely.
