Does intelligence lead to isolation, or does isolation lead to delusions of intelligence?
High iq people are generally introverts.
Intense knowledge of a subject requires a lot of isolated training. They kind of go hand in hand.

generalizations only go so far. but you forgot the third option
>delusions of intelligence lead to isolation

also, why does it have to be one or the other?

Intelligence leads to isolation
but most isolated people are not particularly intelligent
Both, either.
You know the more time you spend working on your muscles, the more they develop and build? Same thing with the brain when spent more time thinking. One of the reasons why introverts tend to come off (keyphrase: "come off") more intelligent.
Otherwise to answer your question: both.

False dichotomy. Everyone wants to believe the best about themselves, and isolation hasn't given you the opportunity to prove yourself wrong

But what if when you come out of isolation for a while every now and then, you find your theory proved correct?
Every time I try to talk with people, I've found no reason to believe they are as intelligent. I will admit that people were more intelligent than I first believed but most are not and some of the ones that are are only intelligent on a particular subject they deal with a lot which is more likely to have been a result of hard work and time than raw intelligence.
