So I want to look into learning new languages in my spare time. Spanish and/or Japanese.
Are there any good (and preferably free) resources that I can use online for either one?

Sorry friend, but all the truly good resources cost cash. Rosetta Stone.

Apply for courses. You can use smt like babbel tho but if you don't have any dicipline its worthless to do it by yourself. Try to find a tandem partner when you have some basis too
Anki with the core 2000 decks in japanese.
Torrent pimsleur's spanish and japanese. Not technically free, but you can pirate it easily enough.
This is a free book for japanese grammar that is popular.

I find I like the iknow mobile app a lot, but it is expensive and the content is the same in the core decks you can download using anki.
Also, it really does help if you can take at least one class at a community college or something. It's possible you quality for financial aid or they'll let you audit the class.
Check out the /int/ wiki.
For Spanish:
Get on duolingo, pirate Pimsleur and just start with that.
Good luck
Duolingo is pretty good, but I'm only learning Esperanto so YMMV
