Should I drop out for a semester or two? I kinda fucked up financial aid and am becoming increasingly uncertain about my future
>be me, majoring in engineering
>going into fourth year junior year
>moved out of last place and back to parents because guy I rented from was a cunt
>couldn't find a job over the summer to hire for summer work
>didn't submit FAFSA until recently
>father still hasn't finished taxes, but plans to this week
>only have about 1800 in savings
>found a place, but could probably still back out if I paid a portion of this month's rent
>If I only get a government loan + pell grant, it just fall short of my tuition (I can take out an unsubbed loan though)
>problem is I don't know when my application will be completely processed
>kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place.
I'm pretty miserable being here though. I just have concerns about my future financial situations. (It doesn't help that rent is stupid expensive in this area). Would applying for a private loan in order to pay tuition until my FAFSA goes through be a better option? I feel like I need to get out of my hometown because I have no friends here and am stuck with my parents.
Feeling pretty shitty desu. Nobody to really blame except myself in a lot of areas. I just feel kind of trapped and end up suffering no matter what path I take.
shameful bump
If you don't have enough money, then yes, obviously.

Honestly you're probably right. Just a bummer because I hate living with my parents after getting a taste of glorious freedom.
Cheers, anon
get a fucking job

I can't afford the rent in my area unless I work 40 hours a week, which is torture on a full time student.
Feels bad man

Where the fuck do you live that's so expensive

Boulder, Colorado. Rent averages around 900 here for a room... It's asinine.

How old are you, anon?

How old are you? If you turn 24 before Dec. 31, go edit your FAFSA and get rid of your parent's information, and put on the application you don't want to enter it.
That will push your application immediately through, if you are going to be 24, that is. If you didn't file taxes last year, put exempt. Right now you're dependent, so there is nothing you can do aside from sitting your Dad down and making him submit the taxes.

I'm turning 22 this month. I wish I could qualify as independent because this would have been a nonissue otherwise, but it's been the same thing year after year.
I love my dad a bunch, and I know he's a busy guy, but man I can't help but feel a little frustrated.

The only option is to have him submit a tax return for the purpose of filing, and then amend it later.
That could be as simple as him logging into a tax site and just using EZ forms and leaving everything out except his W2s, dependents, and standard deductions. It would literally take 30 minutes, tops.
