Why are guys obsessed with or enamored by weapons and war? Why do they assume this is a virtuous behavior? Is it?
>>
>>17421062
I bet you don't even know what anime that's from baito-san
>>
>>17421062
Because it's cool and interesting.

I don't question why women are so obsessed with their periods and make up.
>>
>>17421062
Power. that's all
>>17421074
The anime is Dirty Bubblegum Cats, from the maga made by Suehiro Sonoda

Not an argument

>asking the gender built to kill each other who killing each other is interesting
>>
>>17421090

I guess? I always assumed it was a primal/instinctual thing related to what you mentioned but maybe there's better reasoning to justify it.
>>
It's interesting to see which countries and cultures are willing to do what;

War has its own cultures; each mechanical aspect has a history and story.

War is awful, but there is so much to learn and respect.
>>
Also no, it is not a power fantasy. Most people who are (actually) interested in war are interested in craftsmanship, culture or aesthetic design over murder.

Such as Miyazaki, for example; who had built weapons for his family during World War II. Now you can see clockwork in his films, or his sculptures around Tokyo for example
>>
>>17421108

You bring up a good point here. A lot of the smarter guys I know are often the most war-worshiping, and I think this highlights some reasons why.
>>
>>17421104
There is, but its still tied to concept of power. Weapons make even physically weak people dangerous, and this leads first to an increase in assertiveness, and second to a form of cameratism and respect, hence the fascination with war stories.
Its just desire for power man.
>>
It's the same as when young males of other species play fight. There's nothing wrong with it and it's completely understandable.
>>
>>17421115
>Most people who are (actually) interested in war are interested in craftsmanship, culture or aesthetic design over murder
Its not murder, its the desire of being strong. Those are just derivative things
>>
>>17421115

Good point, the only thing that gets me about this though is that I think, after a while, people get so sucked up in the craft that they forget about the morbidity of it.
>>
>>17421144
It's human nature to be interested in death; but things can definitely go a little too far.

There's a difference between reflecting on why German guns were so fucking cheap, compared to how modern day napalm was made to stick and burn flesh at the same time.

I think, it's easy to tell the difference between creeps and nerds by seeing how interested they are in MODERN war, over history.

> I don't question why women are so obsessed with their periods and make up.

Why not? IMO this is actually a really important question to get an answer to, albeit most women aren't obsessed with their periods unless they're insane SJW types. But yah womens' interests can be vapid or wrong and the reasoning for this isn't always immediately apparent.

>>17421136

> There's nothing wrong with it and it's completely understandable.

Understandable? Maybe. But given that humans are rational beings infighting is in much more of a grey area than it'd be among animals with tiny fore brains. On one hand this behavior spurs healthy competition - on the other needless murder - so I wouldn't say there's nothing wrong with it.

Let's just say I don't love bridges because I love crossing bridges. Do you get that?

I'm talking purely about being interested in war-related things, not actual violence. That's not bad at all. And one does not lead to the other. As much as some people have wanted to connect things like violent media to actual violence, that has been disproved over and over. Like you say, we are rational beings with great intellectual capacity. People can indulge in their natural interests in a healthy way.

I also feel like you are coming from a place that "war is bad" full stop. Yes, war is horribly tragic and morbid, but it has been and always will be an essential part of life. Everything you have today, all of humanity's advancements, would not have been possible if it wasn't for fighting and conquering.
>>
>>17421165
Human decision making is not as rational as you think.
>>
I'd say for quite a few are indeed just fascinated by it for historical and craftsmanship reasons. I don't see how admiring a gun is really any different to admiring a piece of art. And war is honestly very interesting. Just spend some time watching History channel and you'll see that war isn't only for a show of power or anything. Without war chances are we wouldn't have made many of the technological advances we have nowadays. Quite a few inventions were first used on the battlefield but we're later adapted for your average citizen. So all in all its not that hard to see why was is so interesting to guys and hell I've seen plenty of women who were into it as well. It's just a very interesting part of human history.
>>
>>17421175

Yah that was decently put.

The only real counter-argument I'd have is that this particular bridge has corpses hanging on the rails and blood on its road. Even though it was orchestrated via sheer genius a lot of people, in my minds eye, will be so enamored by this aspect that they'll ignore the gore and dead bodies.

And, sadly, while you had the sense not to cross it millions of others were led into doing so without realizing the reality of what they were getting into.
>>
>>17421115
This. I'm a huge war buff and the things that enthrall me the most are the actual design behind each weapon, war tactics, and the politics surrounding it. I also own a shit ton of guns, but I don't get a power trip off of it, I just like the mechanics behind them.
I'm also a /m/an and love mech porn so there's that.
It's the Hunter-Gatherer behavior that has been programmed into our brains since the beginning of time.

Warrior genes.

I'm a warrior.

Men are geared by evolution to be hunters and fighters. It's pretty obvious from there why men are the way they are and how that becomes embedded in culture.

Women tend to not like violence as much because they evolved to nurture children. Again, it's pretty obvious from there how that plays out.

It's virtuous insofar as it protects civilization and maintains order, though it's a double edged sword because it can create deconstruction and chaos.
