How much do you need to make to reasonably support a family of 3 around Pleasanton?
If you want to live in California, live in Sacramento.

I have a bit of choice in where I actually live
Main requirement is I need to be able to drive to the Bay Area for appointments and shit during the day

Also, what's better about Sacramento? Lower cost of living?

you cant get to the bay area from sac with an easy commute. Noooo
Also pleasanton is barely bay
Um, okay you can make it on 2000/mo net but itll be tight and awful.
to live comfortably, about $3000
I rent in Marin, $2200/mo 2 bedroom in a nice enough area. It's a bit of a sticker shock thing when you pay $2 for a peach at the market.
Low six figures
High 80s bare minimum
If they don't offer a cost of living raise be ready to walk

So $2200-$2500 to rent a 2 bedroom
Groceries for 3 maybe $600/mo?
Utilities, gas, insurance, internet - $500?
After-school care for 2 - $300?
Sounds like you need at least $50,000/yr to not starve. That's not including car payments, disposable income, saving any income, or anything else. $80,000-$90,000 definitely seems like the minimum.
It's hard to wrap my mind around. I'm in AZ and $80,000-$90,000 would be living real well here.
